The concept of "communities of practice" proposed by E. Wenger (Wenger, 1998) has attracted attention as a way to overcome the problems of traditional "organizational learning theory," but its evaluation is not well established. Therefore, we invite you to critically examine this concept, present at least three questions regarding the practical and conceptual validity of this concept, and post them on the bulletin board.
In addition, please select one or more posts made by other participants, compare and contrast them with your own posts, and then comment (reply to the thread).
Please keep the following points in mind when conducting [Task 7].
- Based on your understanding of the concept of "community of practice," each participant is free to discuss the issues from his/her own perspective. In this task, we will ask you to present "questions," but if there are points that can be evaluated, you may refer to them.
(However, even in this case, please provide at least 3 questions.) - If you cannot think of any questions regarding the practical or conceptual validity of the concept of "community of practice," please provide three or more situations (organizational structure, activity goals, external environment, etc.) in which you think "community of practice" is not necessarily valid.
- Since the purpose of this project is to understand the concept of "community of practice" from a critical point of view, it is not necessary to propose specific solutions to the problems.
(Of course, you may propose solutions if you wish.) - There are no specific requirements regarding the volume (number of words) of the write-up, but the target is approximately 1,500 words.
(More than this is also acceptable. (If it is less, it does not matter, as long as the content is substantial.)
